Allotments
Information about the village allotment area, its use and how to rent one
Allotments are a great way to grow your own produce and there are 12 plots hidden in the village. They are located next to the cemetery on the Cropwell Bishop road and accessed via a small, secure gate by the village sign.
There is usually a waiting list to rent an allotment so, if you would like to put your name down then please contact the Clerk of the Parish Council.
Allotment Rental
To ensure fair use and access to allotments there is an allotment policy that details the rules and expectations for tenants.
It covers key aspects of the rental agreement, including payment schedules and termination procedures, as well as the standards for plot maintenance and conduct. The policy aims to ensure that allotments are managed fairly and effectively for the benefit of all parishioners.
The cost of renting an allotment is £30 per annum payable in April each year.
Policy Summary
Please see the attached document for the full allotment policy.
Rental Terms
Allotment rental agreements and fees are reviewed annually. The rental term is for one year, starting April 1st, with rent due by April 30th. Tenants must give three months’ notice to terminate the agreement, and no refunds are given for early termination.
Maintenance & Conduct
Tenants are required to maintain their allotments, including surrounding hedges and borders, and keep weeds in check. Upon leaving, the plot must be “turned over” for the next tenant. Failure to comply with maintenance standards can result in non-renewal or immediate termination of the tenancy, with potential charges for remedial work.
Allocation
Vacant plots are allocated based on a waiting list, prioritising current and then neighbouring parishioners, with length of residency and time on the list as key factors.
Rules & Restrictions
Sub-letting is strictly prohibited. There are size restrictions for greenhouses and storage containers, which must be safely erected and well-maintained. The Parish Council will conduct periodic inspections to ensure compliance with all rules.
