Located within Nottinghamshire's Rushcliffe borough, the village of Cropwell Butler is home to over 600 residents and is known for its unique layout and lack of a parish church, a historical quirk dating back to the Reformation when its original monastic church was destroyed. The village's road pattern is centred on a green, from which Main Street and the parallel, country-style Back Lane lead south, whilst Radcliffe Road heads west and Hardigate Road north. Nestled in the heart of the beautiful Vale of Belvoir the village is surrounded by farmland and criss-crossed with footpaths that lead to the non-navigable Nottingham-Grantham Canal. It is bordered to the west by the wooded rise of Hoe Hill and to the east by a lane connecting it to the tiny neighbouring village of Tythby, which features the 14th-century Church of the Holy Trinity.
